Se però lo straniero in questione è un architetto o un arredatore, allora aggiungerà senz’altro un altro concetto, che inizia con la D. Design. Perché l’Italia è per antonomasia “la terra del design”. Sin da quando, negli anni Cinquanta, chi arrivava in Italia si faceva rapire dalla silhouette della Lambretta o dal fascino delle macchine da scrivere Olivetti: gioielli tecnologici in grado di coniugare bellezza e una fortissima carica innovativa.

Da allora ne è passata di acqua sotto i ponti, ma il design italiano rimane un incredibile asset per il nostro Paese. Ed è spesso legato a doppio filo all’innovazione tecnologica. Lo provano i successi, in Italia e all’estero (ad esempio in Sud America) di designer tecnologici come Rosa Topputo. A guidarla, una filosofia “all’insegna dell’umanesimo, del rimettere l’essere umano al centro di tutto“,  spiega a Hello!Money. “Il design per migliorare la qualità della vita è il mio obiettivo principale”.

Originaria della Puglia ma residente a Roma, nel corso della sua carriera Topputo ha disegnato davvero di tutto. Inclusa una mano robotica. Lo studio di architettura e design fondato da lei e Alessio Tommasetti a Roma, D’Arc Studio, ha unito le forze con il rinomato Istituto di Biorobotica della Sant’Anna di Pisa per creare una protesi capace di combinare l’attenzione per l’estetica con la tecnologia più avanzata del settore.

“Spesso lo sviluppo tecnologico nel campo della robotica è altissimo, ma c’è molto da fare sul lato del design”, nota Topputo. “Infatti la mano robotica non vuole simulare una mano umana, è pensata proprio come oggetto da indossare. Noi vorremmo far procedere funzionalità ed estetica di pari passo”.

Tra gli strumenti high-tech più amati dai designer tecnologici ci sono la stampa 3D e i laser cutter. Spiega la Topputo: “il 3D printing, ad esempio, permette di realizzare creazioni su misura per ciascuno. In generale, con le nuove tecnologie si può fare tantissimo per tutto ciò che riguarda il corpo, specie nei cosiddetti wearable”. Tanto che i fondatori di D’Arc Studio, insieme alla romana Lavinia Caldani, hanno fondato ShapeUpItaly: start-up ad alta intensità tecnologica, focalizzata esclusivamente su fashion, wearable design e nuove tecnologie.

Rosa Topputo and Alessio Tommasetti for .bijouets

D’Arc. Studio—Associate Architects was founded in Rome by Rosa Topputo and Alessio Tommasetti in 2007. Influenced by both art and science, it serves as a factory that is not restricted to a single discipline, but is open to the influences of architecture, design, fashion, graphics, animation, video and comics. The city of Rome itself, as well as Italian history and art, inspire the designs, which combine aesthetics and functionality. The studio’s many international collaborations are a gateway for bringing the studio closer to its goal of reaching ideal beauty. Inspired by the success of the Cambiami eyewear project, a collection of customizable sunglasses made with 3D-printing technology, they have developed a new 3D-printed jewelry collection with floral elements that are influenced by the baroque aesthetics typical of Lecce in southern Italy. This collection of jewelry represents one way to translate physical sculptures into digital ones.

From April 11-16, 2016, The Museum of Arts and Design will present LOOT: MAD About Jewelry, its annual exhibition and sale featuring designs from more than 40 emerging and acclaimed international jewelry artists. Now in its 16th edition, LOOT has become known as the ultimate pop-up shop for contemporary artist-made jewelry, where collectors and jewelry enthusiasts have the rare opportunity to meet and acquire pieces from some of the most innovative creators in the field.

LOOT is in keeping with the long-standing commitment of the Museum of Arts and Design to present jewelry as an art form. MAD is the only American museum to possess a gallery dedicated to the display of both temporary jewelry exhibits and its own collection of contemporary and modern studio and art jewelry.

Proceeds from LOOT: MAD About Jewelry benefit the Museum’s exhibitions and education programs.

Our aim was to show our workflow and increase of people awareness about the design process, how we work in different fields using digital drawing and 3d modeling .
The process starts researching the product and market, after that we sketch our ideas and then we sculpt in the 3d modeling software, our inseparable companions are our Wacom’s drawing tablets (Cintiq 24, Cintiq 27, Cintiq Companion 2 and Intuos pro).
We study the aestetichs of every product, for example with My Hand we wanted a prosthetic that people could show instead of hide, something beautiful.
Our design process is exactly the same for Kolibrit, a modular bag with interchangeable flaps made with 3d printing, and Cambiami 3d printed sunglasses.

The LogicA seating system arises from the concept of assembling two-dimensional elements for obtaining three-dimensional shapes controlled at any point: the structural elements, shaped through digital cutting, are spaced by alternating flexible and soft materials, to obtain a variable visual effect tied to the observer’s point of view.The material left-over by the main part of the chair is used to building the footrest that can be  included under the seating. The chair can be used individually or as a modular sofa, and thanks to the innovative high performance features of the materials can be placed in private or public environments, for interior but also for exteriors.The materials used for manufacturing reflect the perspective of environmental care and recycling philosophy: the rigid parts are made in Paperstone and provide strength, durability and water resistance, a material made from 100% recycled office paper, pressed and reconstructed using oils derived from cashew nut shells.The soft deformable parts are inserted for the comfort of the seat and are made of felt, one of the oldest existing fabrics which is adaptable to a wide range of uses and can be assembled with many different materials.
